ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The West Genesee School District is looking to redraw the lines when it comes to which students attend which schools.

Thursday, the committee tasked with choosing a redistricting plan presented what it feels will be the best option. The group is recommending to the board that the district shift enrollments within its schools. This option means no schools would close, instead, the lines will change to create a balance among the district's five elementary schools and two middle schools.

"We've had an uneven decline in enrollment, so we have some elementary schools that really have declined much more rapidly than some of the others. So we're trying to balance all of our resources and balance all of our students so that we can provide equal education opportunities to all of them," Superintendent Christopher Brown said.

If the board approves the measure, it would impact about five percent of families within the district.
