A 14-year-old Binghamton boy received a special gift Wednesday. Kashawn Jackson was the recipient of a surprise healing bedroom makeover from the nonprofit organization A Room to Heal. Our Melissa Kakareka has his reaction.

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- It was a moment of surprise Wednesday as 14-year-old Kashawn Jackson stepped into the bedroom he shares with his stepbrother, Marquis.

"It's been hard with all the surgeries and stuff, but this is really nice what they've done to my room and my stepbrother's room. I'm just speechless," said Kashawn Jackson.

"A Room to Heal" organized a surprise bedroom makeover for Kashawn, who suffers from Hydrocephalus due to a brain tumor. The condition causes fluid to build up inside of his skull and has required him to undergo three brain surgeries in the past several months.

"When I was in the hospital, it was really hard. Now that I'm out, it makes me more comfortable, relaxed, I can heal better, heal faster," said Kashawn.

The makeover includes new beds and furniture, as well as sports memorabilia from Kashawn and Marquis' favorite sports teams and gifts from actor Tyler Perry.

"They are big sports fans, so we wanted to create something that was calm and soothing, but also brought in that sports feel. Their favorite color was blue, so we made blue walls," said Kristin Mahoney of "A Room to Heal."

The Jackson's say they are grateful for the support of organization as Kashawn continues his recovery.

"It'll help, it will make him happy and it makes me happy seeing him happy," said Marquis Jackson, Kashawn's stepbrother.

The room makeover was completed while Kashawn was away with his family on a Make-A-Wish trip to Hawaii.
