Johnson family to see new home today

Today's the big day for a Tully family receiving a home makeover, thanks to a few hundred volunteers. In just a few hours, retired Syracuse Deputy Fire Chief Dave Johnson and his family will be moving into their remodeled home. The family has been staying at a temporary location while volunteers have worked around the clock for three weeks. Our Brad Vivacqua reports.

ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Today, Dave Johnson, his wife, Diana, and their children will see their newly remodeled home on Route 80 for the first time.

Dave Johnson, who is a former Syracuse firefighter, and his wife Diana, have raised 29 children in the home over the years.

Current and past firefighters decided to nominate the family for Extreme Makeover Home Edition. When the show was canceled, volunteers decided to go forward with their own makeover project. The home was in need of extensive repairs and modifications and about $200,000 of work has been put in to the project.

More than 300 volunteers have made the project possible.

The family will be arriving here around 10 a.m. and they will see the remodeled home for the first time.
