Nine local college lacrosse teams to play for national titles

The fields for the NCAA and NJCAA lacrosse tournaments were set on Sunday, and nine area teams will get to play for a national championship.

In the Division I men's tournament, Syracuse is unseeded and will play at No. 3 Duke Saturday. It will be the teams' second meeting of the season following a 12-10 Blue Devils victory on April 1 at MetLife Stadium. The Colgate men also made the field for only the second time ever and will try for their first-ever NCAA win at No. 6 UMass Saturday. The winners of those two games will face off in the quarterfinals.

On the women's side, Syracuse got the No. 4 seed and will host Dartmouth Sunday at the Carrier Dome.

In Division II, both Le Moyne teams made the cut with the men clinching an automatic berth via the Northeast-10 tournament title and the women getting an at-large bid after losing in their championship game. The undefeated men will host Limestone in the semifinals May 19, while the women get a first-round bye and will face either Adelphi or C.W. Post in the semifinals May 17 in Louisville.

In Division III, SUNY Cortland got both of its teams into the NCAAs for the 12th-straight year. The undefeated men got a first-round bye and will host either Stevens or Springfield in the second round on Saturday while the women start their 14th-straight appearance with a first-round home game against NCAA first-timer Castleton Wednesday.

Finally at the junior college level, Onondaga Community College also got both of its teams into the NJCAA fields. The top-ranked and undefeated men are the prohibitive favorite to win their fourth-straight title, which they will play for this weekend at Nassau Community College. The women got an at-large bid to their tournament which takes place this weekend at Monroe Communty College.
