BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. – Broome Community College is building a new Natural Sciences Building. School officials were joined by state and local leaders to break ground on the project Monday.

The $21 million project is being funded by both Broome County and New York State. It will be the home of several state of the art labs and classrooms for students. The school expects the project will provide continued support for STEM education and careers.

"We need to encourage more of our local folks to study STEM, that’s where the jobs are, that's where the better paying jobs are, whether we like it or not, it’s the future of our economy and the fastest growing area of our economy," said Dr. Kevin Drumm, BCC President.

The Natural Science Center will be a LEED-Gold certified building. It will be completed in time for the 2014 academic year.
