SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A woman is in critical condition following a crash that sent two people to the hospital.

Police said Noble Smith Junior, 27, lost control while driving on the 2100 block of James Street around 4:45 a.m. Sunday. The car crossed over both oncoming lanes and hit a utility pole near Mildred Avenue.

Smith and his passenger, Shanequa Fair, 29, were both taken to Upstate University Hospital. Fair is listed in critical, but stable, condition, while Smith is listed in fair condition.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash. James Street has now been reopened.
