ITHACA, N.Y. -- Hundreds packed a small Ithaca church Thursday to say ‘goodbye’ to a man who died a hero, fighting for our country. Funeral services for Corporal Christopher Bordoni were held at the Immaculate Conception Church.

Those in attendance included a bus load of Marines, several of whom spoke at the service. They remembered Bordoni for his bravery and selflessness. His wife also spoke, saying she was grateful that he made it home before he died and that he was presented with his Purple Heart before he passed.

Those in attendance said they were touched by the outpouring of support from the community.

"It’s just very impressive, like I say, it let's that family know that they are not alone here, that we're all here for them, we all feel their pain,” said Gary Allen, Patriot Guard Ride Captain.

Bordoni was injured during a suicide bomber attack in Afghanistan back in January. He died last weekend at a hospital in Texas.

Bordoni is being buried at Calvary Cemetery with full honors.
