ITHACA, N.Y. -- Calling hours were held Wednesday for an Ithaca Marine who died earlier this month.

Corporal Christopher Bordoni, 21, was injured in a suicide bomber attack in Afghanistan back in January. He died of his injuries last week.

Hundreds of people lined up outside the Immaculate Conception Church Wednesday during calling hours for the Ithaca High School graduate.

Tuesday night, a long procession welcomed Corporal Bordoni's body home as people lined the streets from Syracuse to Ithaca.

Community members say the outpouring of support is the least they could do to honor his life.

"The fire department, just like the police department and everyone else working here, our point of view is what if this was our son? What if it was our child? And we want to do the right thing to pay the appropriate respects," said Ithaca Assistant Fire Chief Guy Van Benschoten.

Corporal Bordoni's funeral will be held Thursday morning at 10 at the Immaculate Conception. It is open to the public.

The service will be followed by a private burial at Calvary Cemetery with full Marine honors.
