SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A Syracuse man will spend the next 45 years to life in prison for a 2010 homicide on Putnam Street. Rudolfo Hinojosa-Soto was sentenced Thursday morning in Onondaga County Court. Hinojosa-Soto shot Curtis Parrish in the head, killing him.
Police said the two had been feuding for almost a year after a bad drug transaction. The defense, however, still said that someone else killed Parrish and they plan to appeal.
"This is a case where the jury was out six days deliberating. Twice, the jury came back and asked to be relieved of their responsibilities as jurors, that they were at a deadlock and they couldn't reach a unanimous decision. We believe the judge should have declared a mistrial at that time and he didn't,” said defense attorney Paul Carey.
The jury eventually convicted Hinojosa Soto of murder, criminal possession of a weapon, and attempted criminal sale of a controlled substance. The judge sentenced him to the max for each conviction.
