ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- One of the state's largest dog shows has returned to the New York State Fairgrounds.

Thursday marked the first day of the annual Salt City Dog Show, which is being hosted by four different kennel clubs.

Now through Sunday, seven groups of breeds will be showing off the best they have to offer. Judges look for agility, willingness to show, obedience and breed standards.

Handlers say a lot of work goes into getting each dog ready for the competition.

"They're just like regular athletes, they need to be exercised daily, they do a lot of conditioning, they need to get lots of baths, so they are prim and prepped all the time," said Caitlyn Weinert.

Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children.
