ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Syracuse Fire Department continues their fundraising efforts to help out the family of a retired deputy fire chief.

Last week we told you about the plans to renovate the home of Dave and Diana Johnson. The couple has raised 29 children in their 3 bedroom, 2 bath home in Tully. Twenty-six of those kids were either adopted or fostered.

Fellow firefighters had nominated them for the show extreme makeover home edition, but were unsuccessful, so they've decided to take on the job themselves.

This weekend at the Home and Garden Show at the State Fairgrounds, Syracuse Firefighters are holding a 50/50 raffle, and accepting donations to help pay for all the work.

They're planning to do the renovations over the course of two weeks at the end of April, and are not only looking for monetary donations, but helping hands as well.

Lt. Brian Falise of the Syracuse Fire Department said, “We're always looking for volunteers to get involved and actually show up and help out at the build. Whether you can swing a hammer or serve lunches to the guys that are working, we'll take anybody that wants to help out."

In all, the fire department is hoping to raise $200,000 for the project. If you're interested in helping out, they'll be out at the Home and Garden show today. Or if you can't make it, a Facebook page has been set up.
