ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Elmira City Council will vote on Monday to reject bids for the Grove Park Pavilion that were too expensive. The city has been looking to rebuild the pavilion, which burned down in March of 2010.
Elmira had already received some offers, but they were out of the desired price range. Mayor John Tonello says the budget calls for a $225,000 pavilion. He says most of the previous bids doubled that price.
“There's no reason why a pavilion in Grove Park built in sort of the historic design that we're looking at should cost what these bidders provided for us. So we're going to reopen the bids," said Tonello.
The city council will vote to reject bids at Monday's city council meeting.
