ELMIRA, N.Y. -- City council members will vote on a resolution Monday to accept more than $226,000 of insurance money for the destroyed pavilion at Grove Park. That pavilion burnt to the ground in March.
The resolution will also give city officials an additional $113,000 of city money to use if they decide to rebuild an identical replacement pavilion.
"Pavilion was well used, but I think it could be used even more. So I think what we need to do is that building stood there for well over 100 years. We need to find some sort of a pavilion that will work for the community for the next 100 years or more," said Elmira City Councilwoman Susan Skidmore.
City officials say they hope to start building by next spring and they are looking into the possibilities of adding more smaller pavilions throughout the park as well.
