Special nerd appreciation in Ithaca Thursday
ITHACA, N.Y. -- Get out those pocket protectors all you nerds. The City of Ithaca has a special day planned this Thursday just for you.
Most folks know Ithaca's Cornell University gets a rap as one of the more nerdy colleges in the U.S. But they're celebrating their brainpower in a unique way with discounts at various vendors in the Ithaca area. It's all to help commemorate Cornell's men's basketball team making the Sweet 16 and you can take advantage of the specials on Thursday.
Stop at any of the following locations and get a nerd discount. But remember, nerd documentation is required for the price breaks. Trophies or medals are also acceptable nerdish paraphernalia.
- Flash your Mensa card and get a free macchiato at Gimme! Coffee in all Ithaca and New York City locations.
- Solve a Rubik’s Cube in less than three minutes (like Cornell’s forward Eitan Chemerinski) and get a free drink at Felicia’s Atomic Lounge.
- Nobel Prize winners eat free at the Boatyard Grill; Pulitzer Prize winners receive half off.
- Bring your grades for a discount at Maxie’s Supper Club. 4.0 = 40 percent off; 3.0 = 30 percent off.
- Wear your nerdiest Buddy Holly specs and get half off on entrees at Max’s Classic American Grill & Sports Bar.
- For out-of-town nerds needing a place to stay, Sweet $16 rooms are available at the Holiday Inn-Ithaca Downtown and La Tourelle Resort & Spa on Thursday, March 25.
More discounts will be in store if Cornell advances to the next round, so keep those slide rules and pocket calculators handy.
