ITHACA, N.Y. -- People living in the Ithaca's Fall Creek neighborhood take to the streets as they fight to save the local elementary school. Families formed a walking school bus that eventually stretched out for a whole block. They walked past Fall Creek Elementary and to the Ithaca school board meeting, picking up "riders" along the way.
Fall Creek is the Ithaca City School District's smallest building. School leaders are talking about closing the school to help the district close a multi-million dollar budget deficit. There is not a formal proposal yet to close the school, but families say it is important to act now.
The Ithaca school board president says closing Fall Creek is one of many options on the table. The superintendent will present her budget next month.
