NEW YORK STATE -- The ongoing budget crisis is forcing many New York state parks to close this summer and we now know which parks are affected.

Governor Paterson and the office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation have released a list of closures and service reductions to help close the state's $8.2 billion deficit. The proposal includes the closure of 41 parks and 14 historic sites, and service reductions at 23 parks and one historic site. Twenty-nine sites are affected in the Finger Lakes, Thousand Islands and Central regions.

The governor says the closures were a tough decision to make but that no area of state spending, including parks and historic sites, could be exempt from reductions.

Park officials and advocates say these closures would be a first in its 125 year history.
