NEW YORK STATE -- Instead of fighting the battle to keep inmates safe behind bars, correctional officers and officials from the PBA are fighting for the right to keep their jobs.

The leadership of the NYS Correctional Officers and PBA members say they are launching an aggressive advertising campaign to fight back against the proposed plan to close four state prisons.

The announcement was made at a meeting Wednesday, where the President of NYSCOPBA says by planning to shut down a number of prisons is not only devastating to the officers, but it will also take a toll on public safety.

"Tough times call for tough choices, but choosing to close prisons at the risk of public safety and job is a choice New York cannot afford," said Donn Rowe, President of NYSCOPBA.

The television advertising campaigns are underway and hit radio airwaves on Thursday.
