SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse Peace Council members are concerned new unmanned planes used by Syracuse's Air National Guard unit will make the city a target in the War on Terror. The group protested outside of the guard base in Mattydale Tuesday.
The 174th Fight Wing has started using Reapers, unmanned drones that can be used to drop bombs on remote targets. It can also be used for surveillance and reconnaissance.
The base also hosts a Reaper training facility.
"Having the Reaper drone here and being piloted from here, in a way, brings Central New York into the battle ground," said protestor Ed Kinane.
The training facility is the first of its kind for the Air Force's new fleet of drones.
