4 Weeks to 70.3 Relay
Wednesday, May 30, 2012I took the last two (or maybe five) off because I was on vacation. Today it's back to the grind. I hit the gym before I have to teach swimming. I run for 15 minutes around the parking lot because I hate the treadmill! Then I do 15 minutes of strength training. I'm really trying to do more weight lifting to hopefully help lose some of the extra inches around my hips and because I'm seriously weak!
After I teach swimming, I do laps for the first time since the bike accident. It feels pretty good. I swim one mile, and it takes me about 40 minutes. Much slower than my 1.2 mile time trial, but I can't expect too much. At least I was able to do the distance and put the time in without being in too much pain after. I was a bit stiff, but I'm glad I'm able to swim.
Thursday, May 31, 2012I work a day shift today, so Jim and I go to workout before work. I do 30 minutes of strength training, and I'm feeling pretty tired after all that.
I am out of work by 6 p.m., so I decide to go to the YMCA's East Run group at 6:30 p.m. Man oh man is this group fast. They're all light years ahead of me on the warmup. I'm trying to just not fall too far behind, and my heart rate is still at 174!!! That's like my max when I'm doing speed work, and here this is my warmup! The workout is five minutes hard with three minutes rest, seven minutes hard with three minutes rest, three minutes hard with three minutes rest and then one more five minutes hard. We then "cool down" back to our start, which takes about 10 minutes. I'm dying from the cool down. Man, am I going to be sore tomorrow!

I wake up early. Unfortunately, I wanted to sleep in, but I was up at 7 a.m. So I decide to go to the 8 a.m. boot camp class at Strength in Motion. It is seriously intense. We do a lot of running, resistance training and overall boot camp stuff! It is so tiring and I feel like jello. But I decide to push myself and do a long run after. I haven't done any sort of long-run since my half marathon two months ago! It is really really challenging. I only run for one hour but I get serious cramps in my side. And my feet feel like they are going to fall off. It feels like it takes forever. Unfortunately, I have to walk a lot. That's definitely discouraging. But I did it. I have to shake off the feelings of discouragement because I did it.
Saturday, June 2, 2012Back with the Fleet Feet gang for the seriously early morning workout. I'm at Longbranch Park at 7 a.m.! I ride with the low-end intermediate group, not because I'm afraid of the roads, but because I am such a slow rider. And that proved to be true again. I had a seriously tough time keeping up with the group. I like to blame the bike. And I'm seriously starting to think the bike might have a lot to do with my slowness because I'm pedaling my butt off and I just can't keep up. I have serious bike envy but I can't afford a new one right now. After our bike workout, I run 15 minutes, and it feels like forever. Everything seems to be a lot more challenging than it should be, which is really discouraging. I try to stay focused. But it is hard. Hopefully next week will be even better.
