STONY BROOK, NY - The SU women's lacrosse team erased a seven-goal second-half deficit and beat top-ranked Florida 14-13 in double overtime Friday night to advance to their first-ever NCAA championship game Sunday.
The Orange (19-3) trailed 12-5 with just over 17 minutes left in regulation. But an 8-1 game-ending run fueled by three goals from Marcellus native Sarah Holden helped Syracuse force overtime with the game tied at 13 apiece.
Florida scored with :09 remaining in the first overtime session but the goal was later disallowed because of an illegal stick. SU got the game-winner from Holden, her fourth of the night, less than a minute into the second sudden-death overtime to beat the Gators in 2 OT's for the second time this season.
Syracuse set a new school record with its 19th win of the season and will face defending champion Northwestern in the national title game Sunday night at 8pm on ESPNU.
