Training Week 6: Elisabeth Berson
June 7th: Although this is scheduled as a cycling day, I run today because my work schedule requires me to have Friday as a rest day and I biked over the weekend.
If I could muster the commitment to get up early every day, what a reward that would be! I discover I really enjoy running in the morning before having to do anything else. Then again, one this day, it was roughly 80 degrees with sunshine and a light breeze, so snowy, rainy darkness would surely curb my enthusiasm...
June 8th: Swimming! Each day, I'm feeling more comfortable in the pool. Don't get me wrong, my heart still races, I still mistakenly inhale chlorinated goodness and I tire easily. This is the improvement from when I first began!
I understand the drills much better and by practicing feel I'm able to move a little quicker through the water. Getting to know the teammates in my lane is such a huge perk, too. They are an encouraging group.
June 9th: I'm feeling a teeny bit under the weather so use this as an excuse to lay low with regard to the workout plan. This is not the best idea because that 'meh' feeling carries over into Friday.
Weekend: Because I've lapsed on running and biking for the week and was running lower on energy I decided to primarily focus on swimming. I know if I can get my confidence up in that area, come race day I'll (hopefully) feel more confident at the race start.
NOTE: It's challenging to try and have a life outside of work & training. I mean, I'm making it happen but, wow. There aren't enough hours in the day! And truly, hat's off to the mother's (and father's) out there who do this and parent. Amazing.
