SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Former Binghamton University pitcher Scott Diamond threw 6 1/3 shutout innings on Friday to lead Rochester to a 3-1 win and a two-game opening-series sweep at Syracuse.
Diamond allowed only four hits and a one walk and struck out three batters including top prospect Bryce Harper, who finished 1-for-4 with a single.
The Chiefs next host the Empire State Yankees for four games beginning Saturday at 4 p.m. The Yankees have adopted the "Empire State" name in place of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season as they are playing all of their games on the road and most of them at Upstate New York sites while a new stadium is being built.
