Saturday marked a major event at the Vatican centering, in part, on a nun who called Central New York home.
Mother Marianne Cope was beatified, declared "Blessed" in the eyes of the church Saturday. It is just one step below sainthood.
Three hundred pilgrims from the Syracuse and Utica areas were in Rome for the ceremony.
Monday they meet with Pope Benedict XVI.
