BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Kathy Reno lives and runs an antique store across the street from the American Civic Association. Reno says she did not hear shots or police arriving, but came outside mid-morning to find dozens of officers, SWAT team members and ambulances outside the facility.

Reno says she stayed outside for hours and watched the events unfold. She says the most dramatic part of the day was when she saw the survivors emerge.

"It was just a joyful time to see that those people were alive and well and just an overwhelming sense of loss at people who were trying to live the American dream," said Reno.
