ALBANY, N.Y. -- The state Senate approves a bill to allow parents to view the the evaluation of their child's teacher.

Governor Cuomo introduced the measure late Monday night. It passed the Senate today by a vote of 58-1. It's expected to receive quick passage in the Assembly.

The governor said he isn't asking for the evaluations to be turned over to the general public, nor does he want to violate teachers' right to privacy.

Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos said, "Right now, I think it's a good compromise between, as I said, the parent's right to know and some sort of confidentiality."

The bill was opposed by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who is a major campaign contributor to the majority conference. Bloomberg was asking for more disclosure.
