ALBANY, N.Y. -- Governor Paterson is addressing allegations that have been swirling in Albany about his personal life.
The unreported and unsubstantiated claims started when word got out that a newspaper was writing a profile on the governor that contained damaging revelations. Those revelations were never made clear and the governor's press office had been denying them repeatedly for the past few days.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Paterson called the allegations an orchestrated, scandalous assault on his character. He went on to say that politics has hit a new low in Albany.
Paterson's communication's director Peter Kauffmann sat down with Capital Tonight to talk about the allegations and the impact on Paterson's ability to govern.
"Frankly, it's just a despicable embarrassment on everyone who has played a role. And as far as its effect on the governor's ability to govern through this crisis, it hasn't affected him a bit. He is still as dedicated today, as he was before this process started, the day he took office," said Kauffmann.
Kauffmann also stressed that Paterson has no intention of stepping down, or not seeking election in November. He is expected to officially launch his campaign in the coming weeks.
