ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- YNN and Time Warner Cable are working to Connect a Million Minds. It's a nationwide effort to focus kids on science, technology, engineering and math.
Part of that includes a competition going on this weekend at the Rochester Institute of Technology, with some of the best and the brightest in math and science.
It's the FIRST Robotics competition. There are 44 teams competing in this year's game called Breakaway that tries to get a soccer ball into a goal. The students have come from schools around the region and as far away as Canada.
The goal is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders.
"We have several studies that show that if kids take part in the FIRST programs, they are more likely to go on and take part in careers in science and technology. They're more likely to continue in school, get that degree," said Glen Pearson, FIRST Robotics Regional Director.
There are original competitions like this one all around the country. The winners will compete for the championship in Atlanta next month.
