The ads are in nearly every magazine. Get thin fast, pills to pop to drop the pounds. It can be very enticing, especially if you are a teen looking for the quickest way to lose weight. Products like Hydroxy Cut, Xenadrine to Xenia are over the counter product that are hooking some teenagers.

"We are talking about a drug that has abuse potential because if they are starting to see results they may want to see result quicker, the logic is if I take more of this, I am going to see a quicker onset of my weight loss," pharmacist Paul Flatley said.

Kids are dieting at a younger age. Data from a recent report found 42 percent of girls in first through third grade want to be thinner. Eighty-one percent of 10-year-olds are afraid of being fat and 46 percent of nine-, 10- and 11-year-olds have stated are "very often" on a diet.

Many of the products on the market contain caffeine, which can be addicting and dangerous. Side effects of stimulants include agitation, sleep disturbances, hair loss plus...

"Headaches, rapid heartbeat, nervousness, anxiety," Flatley said.

Some of the products have been touted as holistic such as green tea. You can lose twenty pounds. You have to be careful because on the back, there is a product called gaurana seed extract, which mimics caffeine and can certainly affect your body in a negative way.

As the kids grow into adults, the issue of dieting follows them. In fact, 91 percent of women recently surveyed on a college campus said they are dieting. At any given time, nearly 25 percent of men and 45 percent of women are on a diet. And it can be costly. Americans all ages spend over $40 billion on diet-related products each year.
