Zombies, Run!

If losing weight, getting healthy, or just looking better aren't motivation enough to get out for a jog, how about not being devoured by a flesh eating zombie for getting you up off the couch? Zombies, Run! is a video game for runners or anyone looking for a fun way to get in shape. Zombies are after you in their bid to take over the world. There is a deeper storyline with mysteries like why are they here and how can they be defeated. But in order to play you have to go out for a run or run on a treadmill, any type of running will do. While you're jogging you'll collect virtual items like medicine or ammo, you'll hear in between songs on your music playlist, recordings that serve as clues or news about what's happening in the game, and perhaps the killer feature of this app in more ways than one, every once in a while you'll hear groans getting louder which means zombies are on your tail and you have to actually run faster to get away. Developers say an update in the near future will also track your runs to tell you how far you went, how many calories you've burned, etc. Zombies, Run! is right now for iPhones for $7.99. An Android version is due out in the spring.

PaperKarma

PaperKarma is another neat, new, innovative way to take advantage of the power of your smartphone. It's a quick and simple way to help rid your real world mailbox of real world junkmail. You register with your name and address and then simply snap a photo of each piece of junkmail. The app will then analyze the photo, come up with which company it thinks the mail is from, and then - with your permission - send the company a message asking it to please take you off its mailing list. PaperKarma is a free app at the moment for iOS and Android phones.
