We regularly address the real estate needs of first-time homebuyers and young families, but there is an entire group of homebuyers out there that are often overlooked, Baby Boomers that are looking to retire.

"When we're building for people 55 and older, we're finding that this particular client comes in knowing exactly what they want. They're transitioning to a new lifestyle. They're coming from a home where they may have raised a family in a bigger house in suburbia," said Frank Barbera, custom homebuilder.

Barbera's development, reserved for "active adults, 55 and better", caters to the boomer generation and allows the prospective buyers to customize virtually every aspect of their home to suit their new lifestyle.

"The way we designed this particular neighborhood is, all three of our plans offer first floor living. That is very important to this particular buyer. In addition, each house has a second floor loft and two or three bedrooms upstairs. What's great about that, is it gives you a sense of space if the two of you are home alone or if you have family coming to visit, there's a place for the grandchildren to spend a night comfortably," said Barbera.

The homes in Barbera's boomer neighborhood are considered condos. He wants to stress that the word condominium refers to the type of ownership, not an architectural style. And by buying a condo, you are saying goodbye to yard work, which is a huge selling point.

"Everyone can't wait to get rid of the lawnmower. Done with the weedwhacker, they're done taking care of their landscaping. We have a unique provision here that allows people to have a little garden in the back, which is exactly what they want and are looking forward to," explains Barbera.

If you or someone you know is looking to scale back, but you still want all the conveniences and high end amenities you enjoyed in your previous home, than a development like this is exactly what you are looking for.
