STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. -- Earlier this week, we brought you a story about how the Hornell community is struggling to get their post office named after a fallen Marine. Now, we're hearing from Congressman Tom Reed about the matter.

Lance Corporal Zachary Smith died in Afghanistan in January 2010 and two months later, a bill was signed and a ceremony was held to dedicate Hornell's post office in his honor.

The community thought his name would also appear on the building, but the post office has only dedicated the building with a plaque inside and not his name on the outside.

We heard from a spokesperson from Congressman Tom Reed's office in response to our story. They said, "The post office will only designate post offices in honor of people with a plaque. It will not, due to internal postal regulations on names of post offices, place the designee's name on the outside of the building or allow a memorial outside."

They also said Congressman Reed is looking into what legislative options are available to change those regulations.
