BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- Some changes could be in the works for several county-owned facilities in Broome County.
A task force will explore the possibility of selling or leasing those facilities to save money.
Locations under discussion include the Veteran Memorial Arena, the Forum Theatre, the Binghamton Airport, Willow Point Nursing Home and the county landfill. The task force will be made up of community members with a range of expertise.
They will examine the strengths and weaknesses of each facility.
Debbie Preston, Broome County Executive said, “We must balance any financial shortfalls with the positive community impacts. Certainly there is much that is added to our community by the presence of these facilities. But the county cannot be in the business of operating facilities that continually lose money.”
The task force will hold its first meeting within 30 days, with a final report due four months later.
