STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Steuben County funeral director has been arrested on several charges for misappropriating funds at two of his funeral homes.
David Seager, 71, of Savona, surrendered himself to sheriff's deputies Friday afternoon. Earlier this week, deputies interviewed 80 people with complaints about the Seager Funeral Home in Savona and the Seager-Jones Funeral home in the Village of Bath.
Seager has been accused of withdrawing close to $200,000 from individual prepaid funeral accounts and placing them in a personal bank account in his name. He has been charged with felony scheme to defraud and several other charges.
Seager was previously under investigation for improperly storing a body in the garage of his funeral home in Bath for three years.
