WAYNE COUNTY, N.Y. -- A man who recently moved to Wayne County from Maryland is under arrest and charged in a violent robbery that injured an elderly woman.

State police Devronn Roberts, 33, entered the Bargain Seller store in Wolcott on Saturday and convinced the 70-year-old employee to go to the back of the store.

There, investigators said he kicked and punched the woman, knocking her to the floor where she was again kicked and struck in the head by a bottle.

Troopers said Roberts fled the store with about $20 to $30 in cash from the register.

The victim was taken to Newark Wayne Hospital for treatment.

Roberts was jailed on $50,000 cash bail. He's facing charges of Robbery and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.
